"International Men's Day" ?
Hi people!
Why doesn't the world celebrate an "International Men's Day"? I asked this question to my mom one evening, a couple of years ago and all I got from her, was an expression that conveyed a thousand words, a stare that would have frozen even the vilest basilisk. Head held high and looking back at me with contemptuous look on her face, my mom returned to the kitchen. But my sis, Preethi, who was a witness to this exchange, had the last word when she said that the world simply has better things to do than commemorate a group of people who have done all that can be done wrong in this world.
I did not reply to this barb, mainly because I was in the process of convincing her to doing something for me in the following days that she would not have really done if she were miffed. I had a couple of books that I had borrowed almost a year earlier from the local lending library. Of course the books were delayed because of me, but because a friend had conned me out of them and had not returned them till six months later. And now I seemed to see someone from the library tailing me (a budding PI and a notorious procrastinator when it comes to returning books to libraries) all the time, wherever I go. So I was obviously “persona non grata“ at the library and hence had wanted her to go there and embarrass herself by spinning a yarn so fantastic that even the likes of Spielberg and Lucas would have been proud of. Whether that happened is another story altogether...
Coming back to what I was wondering…the chances of the world commemorating an “International Men’s Day”? But then these days, things like this need more than just the World. This is also one of the messages conveyed when my hero says, "Not Sufficit Orbis". After all, these days he faces a like number of villainous characters from the opposite sex. So, by the looks of it, may be, after around fifty years, we might just have an "International Men's Day". And it might just be on the 8th of October. I dont know if u see the obvious connection, but the 8th of October is day I was born....
Any way, salutations are due to all u women for making this world a better place to live. Ha, Do I see a smile on my mom's face? Yeah, I think so...
