In Bollywood, there is widespread shock at Hrithik Roshan not bagging the Best Actor award for his outstanding performance in Koi…Mil Gaya.
Says a major filmmaker. "I haven't seen the Tamil film for which Vikram has won the Best Actor award [Pithamagan]. But it is impossible to believe he was better than Hrithik in Koi…Mil Gaya. A performance like that comes once in a blue moon. Why didn't they give the special jury award to Hrithik instead of Manoj Bajpai for Pinjar?" (Source: Rediff)
My reaction to this, as someone who saw both movies - Hahahahaha.. When will "major" film makers in Mumbai realise that they are blind people living in a land, the majority of whose citizens are one-eyed!
But I do have to say this. My first thought after Pithamagan was that the role was sufficiently overplayed to make sure that Vikram had a more or less sure shot at the National Award. As for Hrithik in Koi Mil Gaya, all I felt was revulsion. Though a lot of people would feel that both roles were of a similar type, we did not hear Vikram talk in a un-natural voice, at least not throughout the movie!

I haven't seen 'Koi Mil Gaya' and I'm no "major film Maker", but I felt that Vikram overdid the role of an Undertaker, it was almost as if he was retarded just 'cause he lived in a 'Sudukaadu'! I'm sure the Judges saw your point too, let the lesser ham'mer get the spoil.

Well, I thought it was overdid too, Koi Mil Gaya was just a weird way of speaking and not something that has not been seen earlier on screen. But Pithamagan was a unique effort, in terms of both physical and mental effort and that way it was original. But Bollywood being Bollywood, no one sees what's happening down south without belittling it.
This is turning out to be a rant, but i could not digest the fact that a dud like Love Birds could be rehashed by Bollywood as Kaho Na Pyar Hai with different results. Same shit, but different result? :p
When i saw Pithaamagan, it didnt take a genius to figure out that Vikram's role would definitely get him the national award... I honestly did not get that feeling when i saw Hrithik on screen though.. It looked more like Surya's attempt at acting like a kid in "New"... And btw, well done Vikram..
But did either one deserve it?
Effort wise, for Vikram, yes. But as Indian actors sometimes do, such a role/potrayal might have been intentional, but would that take away the significance of his effort? Thats for everybody to decide!
Statements like "I have seen the other side, but side is blush" shouldnt be weighted and published in the first place. What the heck does the so-called producer whoevere know abt Vikram's performance. It was a class apart, and miles ahead, although I felt that the movie per se wasn't so capitivating.
